Gallery of National Textiles offers blend of art and history

Flowing silk, handmade carpets, modern clothes, accessories and suzanis with unparalleled embroidered patterns were among the exhibits at the Gallery of National Textiles which welcomed the public on October 25, the third day of Style.Uz Art Week 2011. The art show is complemented by thematic photos, appliqués and installations.

On display are golden embroidered robes, dresses, scarves, tubeteikas, trendy boots on heels, handbags, dazzling golden embroideries that make Uzbek masters internationally famous. The abundance of colors, textures, shapes and patterns that have gone into the exhibits make for a dizzying experience.

The multitude of visitors, including international invitees to Style.Uz Art Week 2011 and the Tashkent International Cinema Forum, feasted their eyes on the many artistic items created by Uzbek masters who are working to pass on tricks of their beautiful crafts from one generation to another.

The exhibition also offers a collection of contemporary fabrics – han-atlas, batik, silk – and several carpets that adorn the walls, shelves and mannequins.

It is noteworthy that many of the items on display can be not only viewed but also purchased, which is an opportunity for international visitors to Art Week to perpetuate their memories of this celebration of Uzbek culture and art.

The interior of the Gallery designed in a national style that features a series of thematic installations such as a weaving a machine modeled on vintage examples as well as photos by the masters of textile art of the past century and diverse shapes add to the colorful atmosphere of the exhibition, creating a view that obviously will leave nobody cold.
